Introduction
This portfolio assists early childhood educators in mitigating the impacts of circumstances on the lives of Australian children. Five tabs explore economic, social, cultural diversity, health and wellbeing, and crisis and emergency contexts from a sociological perspective and using the latest evidence and Australian policy. Each tab matches family experiences with development, participation and relationships, then leading to practical strategies, partnerships and age-appropriate resources. A strength-based position is adopted throughout whereby difficulty is seen as structural in terms of the conditions within a setting and the relationships that happen there, rather than as a deficit in a child or family.
